I took on a memoir project recently, not with the goal of getting published, but to help improve my craft, practice dialogue and experience the depth of my characters.
Boy, was I ever in for a wild ride! I became the little girl I once was--a scary, but exhilaring experience. I was taken back in time. As a result, I am beginning to heal some old wounds and separate my adult self from the wounded child. :)
Anybody else?

Thu, May 19, 2005 - 11:08 AMLooks like you posted this a while ago, but I had a similar experience when writing a memoir/essay on body image. Took me right back to my adolescent years and ultimately forced me to deal with my current issues with body image.

Fri, March 10, 2006 - 7:20 AMThose are the very reasons I am a bit scared to get my story out. I KNOW that Ill get to relive the experiences again. Ill have to tap into the one part of me that Ive avoided for so many years AND wont THAT be a conversation.
Im so happy to have found this tribe. I hope to meet some of you when I move to San Fran, which will be in the middle of April. Funny but San Fran is the place I feel the book will come out of me. Its a daunting and exhilarating feeling.
